Three-dimensional accelerating electromagnetic waves.
We present a general theory of three-dimensional non-paraxial spatially-accelerating waves of the Maxwell equations. These waves constitute a two-dimensional structure exhibiting shape-invariant propagation along semicircular trajectories. We provide classification and characterization of possible shapes of such beams, expressed through the angular spectra of parabolic, oblate and prolate spher...
متن کاملThree-dimensional traction forces of Schwann cells on compliant substrates.
The mechanical interaction between Schwann cells (SCs) and their microenvironment is crucial for the development, maintenance and repair of the peripheral nervous system. In this paper, we present a detailed investigation on the mechanosensitivity of SCs across a physiologically relevant substrate stiffness range. Contrary to many other cell types, we find that the SC spreading area and cytoske...
متن کاملThree-dimensional nanolithography with light forces
We present the first realization of three-dimensional lithography on the nanometer scale using atom optical techniques. It has already been shown that, with atom lithography, two-dimensional lateral structures of 50 nm can be obtained. In our experiment we utilize the resonant enhancement of light forces to address specifically one species of a multi-component beam. Thus a host and a dopant mat...
متن کاملThree-dimensional superdiffusive chemical waves in a precipitation system.
We report novel results on self-organized three-dimensional spiral and target patterns exhibiting anomalous superdiffusive behaviour in a reaction-diffusion system with simultaneous precipitation and polymorphic transformation of mercuric iodide without external forcing. The superdiffusive dynamics of propagation of the targets/spirals and their breakup are presented.
متن کاملThree-dimensional traveling waves in a square duct.
A nonlinear streamwise traveling-wave solution is obtained by homotopy for square duct flow. For a particular symmetry of the perturbations, this wave comes into existence at about Re(b)=600 (based on half-duct width and bulk speed) for a streamwise wave number alpha=0.85 . The resulting four-vortex mean flow resembles the transitional flow structures observed in previous simulations.
